My Grandpa served on the USS Hornet during WWII. He had a trunk of stuff from the war. Some old pin up girls,letters from home, a knife or two and some work clothes. When I was about 12 I asked him about the war. I told me a little and then said not to ask again. "I saw more than I signed up for but less than my friends"

Every year I would thank him for fighting in the war.

Reminds me of a guy in college. He NEVER wore shoes. Not even in the winter with snow on the ground. He ended up in the speech class I had to take and gave one of his speeches on what he does when businesses require shoes. He pulled a pair of duct tape sandals out of his back pocket and demonstrated how to make them.
