Im not too much of a red head...

Man I hope we're good on snow for this. I've been drooling over another board's Sunflower and CK snow pics.
#24
We're in. I'll finally get to meet everyone.
#25
Ok so we need a time.
I nominate leaving Phx at 8:00am Saturday morning.

A heads up- if there is no snow at Rattlesnake, after the trail is run, I will persue other trails even if just forest roads.

10-4

Meet at the 4 Sons Chevron off the Carefree Highway exit?

I so hope it looks like this...
#28
Can you please remove that weather forecast from this thread?

I don't think there is going to be very much snow on the trail, if any. I went up the 17 on Christmas day and there was about 4" of snow around the 6000 foot level. When I left yesterday all of it was melted except for patches in the shade or on the northern side of hills.

BTW, if by some crazy chance there is that much snow I'm glad I'll be in a group. I'm embarrassed to admit I became stuck in this much snow yesterday.:red|:)=)

It's a toss up.
Chris and I just scoured the web for reports on snow in the area.
Happy Jack and Munds still have 2 feet on the ground. Given this is a wooded canyon area, we might come out okay since it lies at the same height.
And like I said, I'll push on afterwards to find some, or if it snows the week after, for $15 in gas, I'll go up again.
We won't know for sure until we are there.

I'll be there with tire chains.
#32
Enjoy the run, I was voted in to work on Saturday.

I think I've got 3-4 other guys coming with us. I've been telling them to meet at 8am at the Chevron/McDonalds.
#35
So what's the official plan Mike?

How about an un-official plan?
#36
I think the official plan is the Chevron at Carefree highway at 8 AM.

Run Rattlesnake Canyon (wishing and praying for snow...), if no snow (or not satisfying snow), then head to Munds park, where there IS snow.

Either way, we're hitting the white stuff!

Snow Reading for Happy Jack (just southeast of the run)

12/26 20.9
12/27 23.8
12/28 22.9
12/29 21.4
12/30 21.4
12/31 21.1
01/01 20.4

Snow Readings for Morman Mountain (just north of the run)

12/26 31.9
12/27 32.9
12/28 31.6
12/29 30.6
12/30 29.8
12/31 28.6
01/01 27.8

That's all I got.

I used "snotel" as my resource.

Correct on time and meeting place.
Thanks for the report and that site.

And yes if this short run is snowless, those who want, will continue on afterwards. Off Mormon Lake Road (further down Stoneman) there are a few FR's that should be open. When I was up there last year they were: http://www.higherground4x4.com/forums/showthread.php?t=614&highlight=flag&page=2

It sounds like we may have a large group so splitting up after might be something to look into. Guess we'll see.
#38
Oh and weather report says 60% chance of likely light snow showers during our trip!
#39
EEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE! My eyeballs are vibrating again!

So excited.

SOOOOOOOOOOOOOO excited.
