I'm going to be running New River Canyon on New Year's Day (Jan. 1, 2009).
I've only been on the east end of FR41 and never ran the whole thing. I believe it's just an easy gravel road, but for some reason the books are rating it a little harder. We'll find out.
Meet at the McDonald's parking lot off I-17 and Carefree Highway behind the 4Sons Chevron. Departure time is 8:00am.
Following is the info I posted to the 4x4 Meetup Group about the run.
This trail passes over State Trust Land. Make sure your permit is current. Trail leaders are not responsible for you and will not be checking permits.
Hey all, let's get out and run a trail on New Year's Day. Moderately challenging trail with great scenery. It is known by a couple different names.
Forest Service Road 41 from exit 236 on I-17 (Table Mesa Road) to Forest Service Road 24 (Seven Springs and Camp Creek Road)
New River Canyon - Trail #39 on page 154 of the Charles Wells book.
Table Mesa Trail - Central #29 on page 417 of the Peter Massey book.
Estimated trail time is 4 hours from the books, but there are optional side trails FR37 FR17. We can also go on trail #28 Big Maggie May from the Massey book pending time and what the group wants to do.
