Cow Creek to Table Mesa solo 1-17-09
#1
Went to Lake Pleasant Fiday night and camped out at Humbug Cove with some Xterra people. I got to use the newly wired up spots and me likey a lot. Turned the trail into daylight. ;)
In the morn, they headed up to CK (where another newer X broke, you guessed it, a front axle). I've seen and done CK so... I decided to roam around on my own. Saw a trail I've never taken before and took it. It took me down into Humbug Creek.
It was a meat little slot canyon that deserved a hike, so I explored a little. I had my mother's Newfoundland with me and since she was too big to hike down, she made sure I was ok by pacing me from above. Eventually she lost sight of me on the undercuts but to my surpirse and liking she went all the way back to the X and waited by the door.
I continued driving along the trail and pretty much the only other vehicles I saw was two buggys and a quad. My GPS told me I could follow the trail all the way to the Agua Fria and probably exit through Table Mesa. It took a while and the trail was tougher than I had expected, but I finally made it with the rear only tottering 4-5 times (sadly no pics of those spots).

(Nothing too special photowise, just wanted to show the area)

I love that your "nothing special photwise" is still breath taking.

This one speaks to me. Don't know what, but it does...

Glad you got out today. The weather is freakin' perfect right now for doing just about ANYTHING outside.

Cool trip. Thanks for posting up.

i see cow creek on the topo map. humbug creek though is way up from the lake. cow creek kinda follows the back of the lake.

Humbug connects with the lake at 2 Shoes Ranch Rd/Cow Creek Rd.
I do have plans to go back out there and explore some of the ruins, cabins, and petroglyphs on some of the connecting trails.
