Snowy Flag 2-14-09
#1
Just a quick lazy trip up north to see the snow. My Xterra and Bob and another Xterra driven by Randy.
Took the 89 through Sedona and ended up on some Flag forest roads.
Didn't bring any toys but we did a little sledding on the cargo mat and skied behind the vehicle on the shovel :))
Got stuck just the right amount of times and pulled a couple vehicles out ourselves (one had a snow plow). Although the forecast said rain and snow, we saw only blue skies.

Looking out from the top of the 89

A nice open FR

Old forgotten find

At the bottom of a steep hill I sledded down, I looked back up and saw the sun peeking over the top.

Thanks for letting me ride along. I had a great time. It was fun to be up in the snow. Not to cold.
I will post up some pics as soon as they load...

Sweet stuff, looks like a good time. Great pics as always guys.

Is that road in your pic with all the switchbacks, Schnebly hill? I heard they close that in the winter?

I went here;

The road pictured is just the 89. Schnebly was closed.

Your Wick pics looked good with the stolen camera ;) Desert actually still looks nice and green.

I want to go back up there in April/May sometime to see if I can catch the blooms? it was lookin good already.

I broke our 6 month old camera on the way to Turkey Creek so I am in the doghouse for that, besides gettin alot of crap. Thats why I had to sneak the new one out. :)g)

Should be a good year for wild flowers.

I had fun in the snow. Thanks for riding up Bobert and taking pics too!
Although the shovel was fun, we'll have to bring a tube up next time. That road was icy fast. That's the reason for my stuck pic. Well that and I had it in two and was being silly with the steering wheel ;)

My take on the day.

It was a great day to be part of S.A.D. (single awareness day)… I overslept and was a little late to the meeting spot for the snow run. Not a big deal since there was no real plan as to be at any given point by such and such time. I loaded my stuff into the X earth and we were off.
We made our way up the 17 passing and being passed. As we got to the turn off for Prescott Mike says “Your going to like the car coming up next to us.”
I look over and see a 54 Ford F100 making its way past us… I was very happy. Then as they pull up next to the window I notice… Its got two girls in it… Rockabilly style girls!!!!
“FOLLOW THAT TRUCK!!!!”
Then across the CB came a request for a food stop. Oh well no big deal. It was good just to see a girl and a truck like that.
It was as if God was listening to me… the girls changed lanes and got off the 17 at the same exit.
“Mike if they stop at the gas station I am going to go talk to them… There’s two of them!!! This could be a great Valentines day ever!”
As we slowed down to make the turn the girls just kept going and that was the last I saw of them.
Sedona was beautiful as we made our way up the mountain. Snow and ice covered everything. The stream was flowing and it wasn’t to cold.
We soon began looking for fun roads to drive. Mike found a good one with enough ice to slide the X around. Soon we had our first stuck. Mike found a snow bank and needed a quick tug to get back on the road.
Once the x was out Mike busted out the shovel and went for a quick ride behind the other x on the end of a tow rope.
After a quick stop for lunch we found another x off the road and stuck. There were hot girls and a good looking dog so we stopped and offered help. Sorry no pics of girls…
We then found a FR that had enough snow to make it fun and beautiful. Mike lead the way and found a nice hill to sled down but we had no sled. Mike made due and we all had fun going down the hill. The climb back up sucked.
After we had our fun we made our way back to Phx. It was a great way to spend S.A.D.
