fix it list

To help keep this on topic.

2. You got a code reader? I have a cheap one from HF that reads the code. My brother gave me access to his AllDataPro.com account and I can look up repair schematics.

7. I have a tool Dave built for me that makes alignments super easy and accurate.

Guys, would either one (or both of you) mind if my family and I started praying about your job situations on a daily basis?

Whoops...... we did a little hi-jacking our selves..... Sorry guys

Alan, thanks for the offer, I'll take all the help I can get.

Exactly where I want to be for the same reasons.......

Oh yea, missed that part......

I have Code Reader too if anyone needs to use it. Its a bit or I should say a lot more advanced than the HF one. I don't use it for my Heep because the only complicated electronics on my Heep is the CB radio that is in the tool box after the last night run.

ordered the steering stabilizer shock and bracket for the currie setup I bought awhile back

also have the seals for the oil leak ready to install along with a new o2 sensor for the rear

What is the code it throws?

Call me before you head home tonight. You work about a mile from my house. I have a code reader and can get you the repair data sheet for it.

thanks for the offer but I need to just take it in. Ive messed around with it for over 2 years and never got it fixed

Heres a quick rundown

my check engine light came on a few years back saying error p0300 301, 302, 303, 304, 305 and 306 which is a misfire in all of the cylinders.

It never bothered me enough to seriously invest money in getting it fixed. Occasionally the engine would go into limp in mode while driving but would always be back to normal if I shut it off and let it sit for awhile. Ive messed around with it myself replacing parts and diagnosing it but could never get it resolved.

But with a new baby on the way I dont want to worry about the jeep dying while were out somewhere.

I have done some basic troubleshooting, I can clear the codes but it will come back on after some driving. I can get it to come back on immediately if I take off the fuel cap and put it back on.

Vehicle: 01 4.0 TJ 94,000 miles

Steps taken:
Replaced spark plugs
Replaced coil rail
Replaced crank position sensor
Replaced TPS sensor
Ran fuel injection cleaner through it
Did the decarb procedure
Replaced fuel pump and filter
Spent $500 at a mastertech auto and they tried to fix it but the issue came back in a week.

300-306 have basically the same Summary Description. (See below.) You might have a vacuum leak. You mentioned it does it above 3000 rpm in one of the VJC posts and one of the tests/diagnostics listed for those codes is to monitor if it happens above 3000 rpm and the solution for "yes" is check for vacuum leaks.

SYMPTOM
P0300-MULTIPLE CYLINDER MIS-FIRE

WHEN MONITORED
Any time the engine is running, and the adaptive numerator has been successfully updated.

SET CONDITION
When more than a 2% (1.5% LEV) misfire rate is measured during two trips (one trip California), or with a 10% to 30% misfire rate during one trip.

POSSIBLE CAUSES

* Engine mechanical problem
* Erratic cam/crank sensor signals
* Fuel system problem
* Mis-fire conditions no longer exist
* Other possible causes for mis-fire
* Secondary ignition or mechanical problem

yah mike and me went over it doing the basic spray on starter fuel over the hoses but couldnt find anything. At a shop they can hook it up and find one if its there. I'll let you know how it turns out

Randy(Bab) from the VJC looked at the Jeep on monday. He couldnt find any obvious causes of the misfire and said it was very hard to troubleshoot since the problem is so intermittent

He did notice some wires coming from the PCM were a little frayed, he said the wires that were worn also controlled the fuel injectors on the jeep.

He is guessing that the battery is occasionally hitting these wires causing them to short which in turn causes the misfire

He had cleared the codes again on Monday and on the way in to work today the light came back on.

This weekend Ill pick up some longer battery cables and work on mounting the battery sideways so it doesnt hit the pcm wiring.

Good thing is he did not charge me anything for the the diagnostics or testing done by his shop :)g)

interesting drive in again today

jeep died on the freeway, cut out while i was doing 70mph and dropped to 300rpm and just sat there. Wouldnt respond to the gas pedal at all. Had to throw on the hazard lights and pull to the side of the road.

I shut it off and tried to start it back up but it refused to turn over. Took several minutes of sitting and trying it before it would start up again

Drove it the rest of the way into work on the surface streets. Dont feel comfortable taking it on the freeway anymore

Time to get an XJ. I have a car that I'm selling cheap. I live close to your work location too, so if you ever need anything in this area of town.

Had the jeep with Greg for a week. He fixed my AC line, replaced the rear main and worked on the CEL. He thought it was the computer so we put a new one in. He ruled out fuel rail, injectors, plugs and pump. Its definitely electrical which can be a pain to diagnose.

Drove it for 80 miles so far, hasnt stalled yet but.... The CEL light flashed on and off like it did before on the freeway. However it did not stay on. So I dont know what its doing

Updated the first post with things that are done. Just need to do the alignment, subwoofer, wiper bottle and put the new tires on

CEL is not fixed

died on the freeway again
