21 May 2009:
First off, we greatly appreciate any thing that you would be kind enough to send.
We are deployed mostly from the southern California/San Diego area. We live in tents and have a decent dining facility but would love some snacks that would remind us of home. Please, if you're going to send snacks, ensure that it is wrapped well as it's very hot here and mail takes about two weeks to reach us. We don't have the ability to cook or heat any thing and very few of us have access to decent refrigerators. We do have a laundry service with about a 4 day turn-around and the laundry service provides its own soap so we don’t need that.
I'm writing this request on behalf of two platoons of maintenance and supply Marines.
The majority of us work outside predominantly so the following would be great to receive:
Powdered Gatorade / Powerade containers
Sunscreen (spray on preferably)
Trail Mix
Sunflower seeds
jerky
Spades decks / playing cards
Dominoes
Chess / checkers sets
Durable black, brown or green boot socks
DSCP or Soffe brand green tshirts (we can’t wear others in uniform)
Travel-sized toiletry items
deodorant
toothbrushes
Feminine hygiene-related items
Writing paper, envelopes and pens (black ink please)
magazines and books
baby wipes
movies (DVD for laptops)
Canned air bottles
batteries (assorted)
pillows with pillow cases
Single sheet sets
Religious reading materials (assorted)
Lamisil or other athlete's foot products
Tylenol / Excedrin / Motrin / Ibuprofen in either sealed bottles or individual pouches
Dayquil / Nyquil type products
Eyedrops
Nasal congestive sprays / medication
Febreze spray
Foot powder / spray
Boot insoles
black Marine rank insigna
Tan, brown or green face wraps to cover our nose and mouth during sandstorms
Please, no calling cards as we can not use them where we are.
Thank you for your time and God bless.
