class1 and 1600 buggy jig
#1
well, jack woods is retiring and is/has been cleaning out his shop. i bought his frame jig for building class 1 and 1600 buggys. hes been around the longest in the state and if it worked well fir him it should work fine for me. so if anyone is interested in building a 1600 buggy(beam frontend and vw motor) or a class 1 buggy let me know. the last class 1 to come off this jig was awesome. caddy northstar v8 powered and had bilstien blackhawk shocks. it was sick.

whats the difference in buggy classes? class 1, 2 3 etc?

class 1 is unlimited. the last class 1 jack built was his son in laws and it was a-arm front with a northstar v8 for power. had bilstien blackhawk shocks. it was sick. ill try and find a pic of pauls buggy. the 1600 are the old beam frontend rails you see for sale for like 2000. they are vw powered(1600cc). jack developed a long travel arm setup for the 1600 series beam axle. they work great and are pretty cheap.

Think of Class1 as more bad ass than trophy trucks.

My brother is cruzing to the Baja 1000 on a pit crew this year. He has been trying to convince me for a while now to run it with him. I currently have a vw baja that I've built and he wants to try and use it, but it would take a lot of work to get it in shape to make it through the course. If he is serious about racing, when he gets back we might give you a call to see what kind buggy we could put together on the jig.

The class 11 guys are real racers in the stock vw bugs. Granted the vast majority of them don't finish, but that's a helluva race in a nearly stock 40 year old rig.

ya the class 1 buggys are way bad ass. when paul had last raced the snowflake race he hit 98 on it at one point. thats fast for a little track.
