I am trying to teach myself some photo/graphics editing. This was my first project.

Perty. All I can do with my Picasa program is make a circle-area that's color and the rest of it's black and white. I can make the colored part bigger or smaller, but can't get into the nooks and crannys between petals for b&w.

The program I'm using (Similar to Adobe Photoshop, but free download) = http://www.gimp.org/

It's a fairly simple process. Create 2 layers. B&W photo is placed over the color photo layer. Then, get out the eraser and erase the B&W layer where you want color to show through. It makes it easier to zoom in to 400-600% and get the finer detail edges.

It's always an interesting look, but Photogs will boo you out for selective coloring. Just sayin.
Learning with layers though are helpful excersises

Boo, I like the color item on B&W background look. Photogs suck.

I was just playing around. I downloaded and installed GIMP because I was needing to make a logo for my brother's business. Then, I started messing with other features and layers in the application.

Here is the next one I did some experimenting with.

I was working with layers again. Tried enhancing colors. For example, making the sky blue-er-er, trees greener, rocks redder, etc.

Did you notice it distorted your edges a little. Your flag looks like it had fringes now and also along the moutain range. It is fun to experiment with those programs. Next you will have mike cut and pasted on something rude:)=)

I'm selfishly motivated, thus inclined to thwart your attemps at becoming remotely good, pastrami wings

Yes, I was sloppy with the edges. I don't care.
