Tire Size Question! :)
#1
Okay, so my Xj has a 4.5 lift and 2 inch spacers up front, and extended shackles in the back.. I hear all the time people putting 33-35 inch tires with a 4 inch lift on their jeep.. I don't see how this is possible, or even worth while as you would lose like half of your suspension travel.. can anyone shed some light on this for me? I have 31's right now..

I'm at 5" of lift on the xj and I run 35's and I think it performs very well off road. The key is to balance your articulation, keeping in mind that the drop is generally where you get more travel anyway.

If you look at most rock buggies, they have uptravel of about 5 inches. The droop is what keeps the tires on the ground.

sitting level-ish

some flex

same thing different place

I had no problems with 33's, but had a trim a lot for 35's. I'm sure I need to address my up travel, but I don't really care until it flops.

hm... alright, well I may look into some 35's when I replace my tires then!

Heck you can fi 40s on that thing. You just need a SAWZALL and some duct tape:clap::clap:

But seriuosly I had a 5.5 lift and i ould clear 35s. You do need to "clearnace" the rear qtr's with some cuts and rolled egdes but it works.

LOL 40's might be a bit much for my little D30.. i'm assuming with 35's the chances of snapping an axle grows quite a bit?

Ask Sc00by. }:)

I've broken one chromolly shaft on my D30, but that's it. If you don't have upgraded shafts, however, I'd make sure I went easy on the skinny pedal, boss.

Thanks buddy }:(

Yes 35's on a 4.5" is possible BUT if you run out of suspension travel & are also trying to get over a rock then yes the stock D30 shaft will let you know youve gone too far :eyeroll:

 bummer.. well it'll be a little while before I get 35's so that'll give me time to save up for new axles... and spares.

Dont forget gearing!!!
Ugh I went over a year on 33" tires with 3.55 gearing

4.56 & 33" tires is FUN :)=) but the 4.56 & 35" is a good combo too!
