5th Annual Manmping - Aug 13-15 2010

5th year for our official Manmping trip.
Hone up on your survival and hiking out skills.

Dates: Manmping is August 13-15
Departure time: 2pm Friday
Destination: West Clear Creek (entering upstream and exiting at last year's PoE)
Return: Sunday before sundown

Camping will consist of two nights away from the vehicles camping- You will have to pack it all in.

Pack light, add-water lunches/dinners recommended. We will have a small fire.
Also know that this year, we will be going down stream with everything and returning a different way - camping below our descent on the first night and somewhere else on 2nd.
This means you will need to make provisions to keep your belongings dry.

A few ways to do this:
Float your pack. Use your tube or second flotation device) for your pack to travel on. You could even make use of your camping mattress if it is airfilled.
Drysack your unwettables. You could pack light enough to utilize a larger drysack or separate your items and accept your main pack items could get wet.
Make your pack floatable and quick drying. Many drysacks can fit inside larger hiking packs. With your unwettables secure in the drysack placed inside your pack, it should float on it's own. Many people will add grommets to the bottoms of their pack's pockets to keep from having to deal with saggy heavy pockets at every pickup transitioning from floating to hiking (similar to many boardshort's pockets).

Bring a couple water bottles but we will be directly on the creek so we'll refill with purifiers.
Tents are not allowed. Weather conditions will be posted in advance. Tarps are an option.
All of these factors should lighten your load considerably.

Other things to bring:

A cheap $4 Wal-Mart tube (or blow up device of your choice)
Shoes that will get wet
Bug spray
Sunscreen

And as always:
Weapons
Non-altered measuring tapes
Knowledge of the movie Fight Club and Boondock Saints
Saturday night is cook what you kill night

High Clearance carpooling, preferably 4wd will be discussed
We can organize a little better when we meet Friday. That way every guy won't be packing a lantern, stove, etc. You may be asked to strap an extra item to your backpack.

I heard this spot is one of the few on earth where bacon is know to grow in the wild. From what I recall one must climb high onto a cliff to retrieve the greasy goodness before falling into a pool of frigid water

My mother-in-law is pushing to have a party for Zach that weekend his "ship out" date was moved up a week from the 24th to the 17th. So it'll look like I have to back out of this. :(

Trust me Id rather be there than here!!

I’ve got my stache and I’m ready to go! I think this year we need to toughen up and be like the barefoot guy from the tv show “Dual Survival.”

Anyone have a gun I can borrow?
