Road trip 2011
#1
I have been reading all the post on different boards about peoples road trips this summer. Taking two weeks and hitting up a few shows or parks or just some sights they wanted to see.
It made me think of how much of the west I have not seen. I would like to do a two week trip this next summer. I am still working on a list of things I would like to see. I think the biggest rule is going to be no set times to get to any one place. The other rule needs to be that I need to spend a few nights under the stars on the road AKA No hotel...

If you were to plan a road trip what would you like to see?

Colorado to Montana. Hit some NP along the way, maybe loop back further west. Do some exploring on the back roads along the way like http://www.anasaziofferings.com/

The whole thing. I dunno. Probably another one of those places you could just drop me off at to stay.
I think Glacier Nat'l park is there too.

I want to drive from here to Alaska. Jeeps plus snow and polar bears and northern lights would be awesome calendar shot

I've always wanted to explore the Pacific Highway. Route 66 was a fun trip too.

I want to do this!

Revolutionary and Civil War battlefields/monuments. I've been to most of the US except the states in the SE.

Already mentioned, but I'd like to take at least 3 months and drive to Alaska and back.

Me too! I'd start at Hodad's in SD. Not sure where it ends, but I 'd like to end up in Seattle or Vancouver.

We did a roadtrip about 4 years ago. Rented a Jeep (this was before we owned one) and drove up the coast all the way into Washington. One of the bast aspects of the trip was not really knowing the date or day of the week. We had a couple places we had reservations for but other than that it was just point and shoot. I'd recommend staying in Little River, California and a couple nights at the Fairview Lookout Tower just outside Cottage Grove, Oregon. Watching the sun come up over the forest as you sit 40 feet off the ground is a fantastic experience.

Here are a few pics to inspire you! Sorry for the quality.

1st Jeep. Broke the tranny offroad so the rental comapany gave us a XK as a replacement.
