Family and friends are grieving after a shooting at a Phoenix club left two people dead and two others injured.
Phoenix Police Sergeant Tommy Thompson said the shooting occurred at the Great Alaskan Bush Company, west of 27th and Grand avenues, around 11:30 p.m. Sunday.
Trent Crump with the Phoenix Police Department said the suspect has been identified as 28-year-old Gavin T. MacFarlane of Scottsdale.
Witnesses reportedly said MacFarlane had been inside the establishment, went outside to the parking lot, and then came back inside and opened fire.
The Associated Press said a dancer was shot in the arm before the gunman fired at a doorman who was trying to protect her.
"One of our doormen got shot because he was starting to defend one of the girls that work there," said Amanda Holland, a dancer at the club.
She said MacFarlane told the dancer "you're next" when the doorman stood in front of the dancer and was shot and killed.
MacFarlane reportedly hit two more people before he ran out of ammunition and was detained by people in the club until police responded to the scene.
Police said Macfarlane was interviewed, admitted involvement in the crimes, and indicated the motive was a personal agenda.
Thompson said 34-year-old Adam Troy Cooley, the bouncer at the club, died in the shooting.
"He was liked by everybody," said Great Alaskan Bush Company owner Damian Hartze. "Everybody liked and loved Adam. He was just a great guy."
A 20-year-old patron at the club, identified as Antonio Garcia, was also killed.
"A young man just in the wrong place at the wrong time," said Hartze.
The two other victims, only identified as a 22-year-old white male and a 20-year-old white female, were taken to local hospitals with gunshot wounds.
One victim is in critical condition and the other has non-life threatening injuries.
There are several witnesses and police are interviewing them to get more details of the incident.
MacFarlane is being charged with 2 counts of 1st degree murder, 3 counts of attempted murder and 1 count of aggravated assault.
This is the second fatal shooting at a Phoenix club over the holiday weekend.
Police say a man died after he was shot and then run over by a vehicle early Saturday after an altercation at a Phoenix gentleman's club near 19th Avenue and Camelback Road.
I started at IBM the same time Gavin did. We were friends at work and I took him wheeling a few times. I know he was bi-polar but still really surprised at this. Sad
