trucks under 10k
#1
Everyone has an opinion on a truck. Lets here yours

What would you buy if you had around 10k to spend on a truck that would be used as a daily driver and the occasional jeep tow?

Needs to be 4wd and 4 door

I'd look for a Chevy 2500 or a Dodge 2500. Diesel.

not a fan of diesel though for daily driver, plus the noise will scare all the little forest animals away ;)

lol true, I did love my 6.0 in my Chevy, but it just didn't quite do as well as I wanted up the mountains loaded with a jeep in tow. If you don't plan on pulling a jeep often at all, go with gas. But be prepared to go slow up hills.

Ram 2500 :)) Its a good thing you don't want diesel because frankly a dodge with a cummins sounds like a washing machine.....a beautifully orchestrated washing machine. On 94-01 Rams if you wanted more seating all you could get was the quad cab, which is not really 4 doors. The back seating area just isn't big enough. So if you want a dodge with 4 doors look for something 02 and newer. As far as power for 94-01 I would steer clear of the V10 and find a 5.9 V8. Dont look at my cracked 5.9 and instantly place the motor in the bad pile, it's a solid engine. The 5.2 will be too underpowered to pull a jeep. Dodge Dakotas came with 5.9's but Im unsure as to their towing rating. Personally I'd still pick a Ram over a Dakota though, no IFS!

A Silverado would be my second choice but I don't know nearly as much about Chevys as I do Dodges. Mr Avis should be able to answer your questions on those. GMC is the same as a Chevy.

Ford sucks. I try my best to pretend I dont drive a Ranger daily.

The new Tundras are built with plastic and toothpicks. Avoid them.

If you're only towing a couple times a year you could get away with a 1500. The 2500 would tow better, but the 6.0 does use more gas.

I've got a 2002 z71 burban with a 5.3 that has been great. We use e85 in it when not towing and it keeps the gas cost down a little (don't tow with e85).
It's heavy enough to control a jeep on a trailer really well, and the z71 gearing and suspension helps. We tow to cali regularly with no problems.
