Okay how does this work? I was over on offroadpassport site and saw the links for V and Sc00b for ham radio tracking

How do you set that up? Do you have to be licensed to have it track you? That would be pretty cool to do for some of our trips like moab and colorado

It's called APRS. Automated Packet Reporting System. Yes, you have to have your ham license. Basic setup is connect a GPS --> Interface --> Ham Radio. Based on your settings, it beacons out your position every so often. Mountain top digi-peters and i-gates pick up that signal and upload it to the internet. I'll dig up some better info on how it all works and report back.

There are also smartphone apps, but you still need to have a ham license to use them. U2APRS is my favorite, but APRSDroid isn't bad either. Downside of these is they stop working when you lost data service. (Most trails)

Neat way to track where you are and or leave a bread crumb trail if anything happens and you don't return home.

You can do the same thing you are wanting with a SPOT yes? Real time tracking of user from home.
...Ah, reading up, loc is sent out in ten minute intervals. Plus that service is extra
