Almost time for a new truck
#1
I have had it over 3 years and 70K miles. She is starting to slow down and she is leaking a little more. She is just geting all used up.

I figure this time next year I should be in a position to get a new to me truck. What should I look for?

04 to 06 Dodge 2500... And give me your truck. : )

Well, if Alan gets a truck you won't need a truck to pull anything anymore, so you would be fine with a 1500 I think. I"m a huge Chevy guy, always will be... so... my first vote would be a 03-08 Silverado Z71 4x4. If you don't want Chevy get a Dodge Power Wagon :D

Love this truck so much... not a dodge fan, but wow this is sexy..

OR..

minus the rims..

The thing I hate most about Chevy is they don't put a solid front axle in them regardless of the size.. 1/2 ton any make has IFS, Ford and Dodge have a solid axle 3/4 ton and up Chevy stays with IFS..

Not a chevy guy. Not saying I wouldn't drive own one.... Just not first on the list. I do love the power wag!
#7
On a more realistic note because Power Wagons are stupid expensive... the Dodge 2500s are nice.
#8
I think you'd look good in a Ranchero.

Bob ElCamino...

Well naturally I suggest Dodge. If you go for the newer body style with a hemi you might as well shoot for a 2500, just more comfort knowing your drivetrain is stronger. Not only that but you get the benefit of a solid front axle, something the 1/2tons lack. So far our 04 2500 5.7 averages around 12 mpg, but our last tank was 14.5 *happy dance*. Sad reality but I wouldn't be happy with anything else.

If you have a choice, get one with clearance lights for no other reason than the fact they're badass. ;)

Bump.... :)

Talk me out of a new truck.

Reasons to get a new to me truck:

Trans is making noise again
Trans is leaking
Rear main is leaking
Front end needs rebuilt
Front 44 is leaking
Rear pinion has a vibe that is getting worse
AC leaks and is no longer working
Check eng light is on and truck is getting harder to start
Power steering is going out.
Tires need replaced... again.

Reason not to get a truck:
Its almost paid off.

Thats all I got...

whats the cost of repairing everything compared to the cost of a new truck? Go with whatever is cheapest

I thought about that. The problem with this idea is that I still have a truck with 170K on it.

Well, here's the pros of NOT buying a new truck,

Current truck is almost paid off
Payments suck

Here's the pros of BUYING a new truck

It's newer, lower mileage, etc.
It can pull your dodge to the trails
You can build your dodge and wheel it
You don't have to worry about breaking the dodge on the Rubicon
Better MPG (probably)
If you get something new enough, the chances of parts breaking are very slim.
Most of the problems currently with the dodge won't matter if all you do is wheel it. :)

I vote fix it

save money and pay cash for a replacement
#17
bump?

Not going to happen.

Nevermind.... Not a bad truck and a fair price. Just a hard time with the idea of payments again. It has the h.o. engine and 4 speed auto 145k ish miles $15k obo
