Turn Signal Troubleshooting
#1
Over the last couple of days I have had an interesting time troubleshooting my turn signals and rear tail lights on my LJ. I presently own a daily driven '06 LJ with rear flush dump truck tail lights. Just simple $6 off the shelf lights with common bulbs. Yesterday I lost my rear tail lights, hazards, and turn signals due to a burnt out bulb. Replaced the rear bulbs, blown Fuse #2 (Stop Lights), and blown Fuse #13 (Turn Signals) and got my running lights and brake lights back. Woo Hoo! No turn signals (doh!). Then turned to the Factory Service Manual to find the Combination Flasher (Located in steering column). At this point I should have slowed down and actually read the FSM (I know Alan, I'm doing it wrong...). Today got a replacement Combination Flasher. Replaced flasher. Still no turn signals (double doh!). Started looking through wiring schematics in FSM and found fuse #27 (MFSW). I believe MFSW is Multi-Function Switch. Replaced blown Fuse #27 and poof the turn signals and hazards are back in business. I am amazed that a blown tail light bulb could blow three fuses and send me all over town using arm signals. By the way, if anyone needs a copy of a 2005 TJ Factory Service Manual (55 MB in Adobe) let me know and I will get one to you. 8)

I've had the Multi-Function Switch go out on Dana's Jeep. Didn't know either that there was something that controlled all those
