Thanks everyone....... here's our latest updates;

So after 5 treatments on Plasma Pheresis (sp) mom has more movement in her limbs then shes had in weeks...... They took her breathing tube out Thursday and proceeded to frantically put it back in as she was struggling to breathe because her lungs need re-hab and her throat was all swollen from teh irritation of the breathing, feeding and suction tubes beein in there for a week...... Friday they did a traceotamy on her so she has her mouth back, no talking tho, her throat can heal and they can test her breathing much easier....... Last night she had a 6th treatment of Plama Pheresis and will everyother day until she shows significant signs of improvement..... She also has her sense of humor back.....

In a nutshell, she's improving slowly but has a looooong way to go. Cristina and her Aunt and Uncle from Yuma, who are staying at our house are rotating for 24/7 coverage with Cristina doing most of the coverage.......

On top of this we found out this week that Glen, Cristina's ex father in-law who she still refers to as "dad" also is the man that let us use the cabin in Payson. I have met him several times and we get along well too, he's a car guy so we have plenty to talk about when we get together...... Anyway, he was in St Joe's for the last week and was diagnosed with acute Leukemia (sp). He has some health issues already which are mostly his own fault for not taking good enough care of himself so its unlikely that he will survive this..... He was transferred to Mayo clinic today but I am not sure what the plan is because Cristina has to get updates from her ex-husband, who she cant stand to talk to and he doesnt know shit...... Plus she has been so wrapped up with mom that she really cant dwell on Glen too much....... when she first heard about this though she was crushed......

To be honest I was waiting for a call from Washington from my sister to tell that one of my parents (Both over 80) were in the hospital too....... when it rains it poors......

Thanks for all the support

Thanks everyone,

Just got word from Cristina that mom was off the ventilator all day....... this the is best news we've had in a long time....... Even though she has shown signs of physical movement, it appears as if her body is fighting off the GBS while fight off the other stuff too......

They plan to move her to a long term care phacility in Sun City tomorrow..... this place has everything need to care for her plus it is alot closer to home..... Well our home, so Cristina can come home easier when she gets a break......

Thanks so much for the support.

Great news Sy, thanks for all the updates.

awsome to hear bud!

Mom has been off the ventilator since yesterday morning..... they are currently moving her to a long care facility where she will get equal care and have less virus' floating around along with the therapy center on sight to help her get back up and moving....... Oh wait, this is still prolly a little ways away but she is doing much better.

Thanks again for all the support.

Very good to hear.

OK, well mom is gettin much better since they moved her to the long term care facility...... she now is completely awake and coherent, communicates well, she has no voice because of the trach tube is still in...... she has full movement of her arms and hands, actually brushed her own hair yesterday.... her legs arent cooperating so fast but she had movement in her feet and toes, she can sit up now and is staying out of the bed for longer periods of time everyday...... She still has a long way to go but this is alot of improvement for one week I feel and she shows improvement every day. She still has trouble sleeping because she is afraid she will stop breathing among other worries that we have yet to get out of her..... Her personality and sense of humor is back too.....

She worries about Cristina being there now more than ever because no one else is any help what so ever...... Her brother, Lynn, (Cristina's uncle from Yuma) was a huge help but he caught a cold and went home for a few days to take care of some stuff there...... Other then that Cristina's brother, half sister, step dad all are not talking to Cristina and pissing mom off more than they are helping...... Really sucks at a time when family needs to pull together they are further apart and not talking......

Cristina comes home during the day to shower, change clothes and nap a little but stays with mom prolly 16-20 hours a day.....

Hopefully the improvements keep coming and mom can get to lift her foot about 3 feet off the ground cos she has alot of butts to kick......

Thanks for the support

Cristina posted an update;

Mom update. We are adjusting to life in our new place. We have physical therapy and occupational therapy every day. About 20 minutes of each is about all we have energy and strength for right now. But she is doing great. They are talking about changing out her trach to a speaking valve which will allow her to speak of course but also to eat and drink again. She has gotten quite a bit of mobility in her arms. She can brush her own teeth now which is good b/c I sucked at it. Lol.
Still not much in the core or legs yet. But baby steps to getting better each day. :)

Mom also tom her first assisted steps today for about 5 feet and is now exhausted.

So after another week of physical theropy, speech theropy, and just plain gettin better.... Mom is doing just that. She is now walking sitting up, getting herself from the bed to the wheelchair among other minor things, without assistance. SHe also is walking more, working on stairs and mainly working on strength and stamina. SHe has the smaller trach tube in and a speaking valve, (Not sure if this a good thing yet or not :p) she is also eating and drinking orally, they removed the catheder last night so she has to train her bladder to work again.

After a week of real food, no feeding tube, no catheder and most importantly no reliance on the trach for lung cleaning and breathing technique they will remove the trach and prep her to move to another PT facility which is just a coupla miles from our house, to work on her stamina, strength and confidence to get her back in shape......

The only real problem still is her fear of falling asleep and not waking up..... she fights sleeping for this reason, afraid whe will stop breathing and not wake up. She still does not want to be alone and wants Cristina there constantly, her brother Lynn is back from Yume and that helps but Cristina is really being taxed by this. This fear of being alone we are learning is not new.....this has been here for many years...... We just need to get her some confidence to take care of herself so she will be comfortable by herself......

Thanks again for all the support

So mom is completely self suffcient now, she has no more monitors, no more hoses, leads or wires connected to her. She is eating normal food, doing alot of physical therapy, walking with and without the walker, and sleeping much better. Doing so well in fact that they are talking about her going home as soon as this Friday (tomorrow). Everyone is amazed at the rate at which she is recovering.

Mom going home is a double edge sword for us, as it is amazingly awesome that she is doing so well...... she is skipping the 2nd location for in-patient physical therapy and going straight home and getting 2 weeks worth of in home physical therapy...... the bad? She lives 15 miles west of Wickenburg in the middle of the desert a long way away from a hospital and even farther away from her best nurse, Cristina. She also has 3 big dogs that she will have to dodge and not trip over and she is there all alone with her husband, who we dont think quite understands the severity of whats going on and what its gonna take to get her back up to speed.

Cristina is still off of work and will be keep a close watch on her like she has all along and will probably be with her alot.....

Thanks again for all the support, the recovery has been truely amazing so far.

Truly an answer to prayer. Thanks for the update, Sy. Of course, we'll still be praying the recovery holds and the Cristina will continue to have strength and peace as she watches her.

Cristina added a new update to FB;

So mom update....she has no more tubes, wires, hoses or monitors connecting her to a hospital bed...she has been released to go home but will still have home health care nurses and therapy coming out to her house...as will I be there as well...she is walking unassisted now but still struggles with strength and endurance...she will get better tho...all the Drs and nurses are confident...just a while longer to get her back up to speed....she has asked that I tell everyone THANK YOU FOR ALL YOUR PRAYERS AND THOUGHTS SHE KNOWS THEY HELPED AND APPRECIATES THEM GREATLY. As do I, so thank you all from me as well.

I wanna thank all of you from me too, without the prayers and support from all of you mom would not be recovering as nicely as she is........ THANK YOU.

Still praying. Glad to here the fantastic news

Been a while since we updated this since the updates arent really worht posting...... Progress has been slow but steady. Mom is is getting better but she's in the last 15% or so of recovery which is all strength and conditioning...... It may take years for her to get back to where she was...... She plans on going back to work on May 1st. for alot of reasons, she's goin stir crazy at home all the time is the primary reason to get out and going.....

Cristina has gone back to work April 1st and is getting back into her "normal" routine again.... She has been back teaching Jazzercise since the beginning of March. She goes out to visit mom on Sundays to help her with stuff and hang out with her.......

Again I would like to thank all of you and all who have contributed to the recovery.

I am so glad to hear she is doing so well. As with me, strength and stamina will come in time.
