Can you trace back to the days where you thought one vehicle or another was the awesome sauce only to look back now and say um no what was I thinking?

Back in Jr High I thought that this was the coolest vehicle.
4608
GMC Typhoon
I had a picture of one I had clipped out of a magazine in my wallet. One day somehow it fell and the picture fell out next to the teacher who picked it up and said out loud, "You know most people have photos of girls in their wallets. What's the matter you don't like girls?"
I'm from a small town where every Fri & Sat eve was cruise the main street strip night. So at one point I wanted the Green Chevy truck, not lowered, but complete with skirting and those tri swirl painted to match wheels. I think I also thought a Honda del sol was cool too.
For the record, it looks like a Typhoon just sold at Barrett J for $54,000 :)

I still love those.
Since I had my dream car in Jr High I will tell you about the car that I wanted got and hated...
69 VW fast back. I thought it was killer car and that I would love it till the wheels fell off... Well the wheel almost fell off the muffler did fall off and the thing died on me 1/2 the time.
I hated that car and it cured me from EVER wanting another VW.
Looked just like this one but much worse...

maybe it's PBR matt speaking, but I would drive a cyclone or typhoon all day anyday.
I thought this was supposed to be embarassing, like an AMC Pacer, or a 74-78 mustang.

Ok don't laugh but I have always wanted one of these,
When my wrangler was down with a clutch again for the 2nd time, due to my wife must I add, I almost traded for one of these, in a million ways I am glad I didn't but at the time it seemed lika great idea
Test drove a brand new one when they came out in 02 and fell in love with the 6speed version, have always wanted one since

Guys he said embarrising, not badass. Mike the gmc are some of the basest hot rodded all wheel drive rigs from factory. Little more power and you'll spank Alot of other cars.

Are you telling me my little rice burner nissan is not embarrising?
Aug 01, 2012 01:37 PM#11
yes, yours is embarrassing bbrennan.
The JK and the general lee are not embarassing at all. Daniel, you're doing it wrong.
Aug 01, 2012 02:13 PM#12
I know the general lee isn't embarrassing, but I had to throw it up there. :) lol Hence, why I put a slammed VW Bus up first.

In HS I had a thing for lowered mini trucks. We had some $$$ at my school so there were some well built rigs. There was an s-10 that looked alot like this but was painted blue with some splater paint on it.

Finally I did something right

^^^ lol Sweat and Bbren
Maybe there wasn't much $ where I'm from. Not much lifting or lowering was going on at least at school.
I only remember three vehicles that I considered cool at HS. One was a Volkswagen Thing, and the other two were owned by the only two Arab kids in the state. They were identical twins (or maybe they just looked the same) and one had a new Grand Cherokee and the other a new Wrangler with a lightbar. I'm pretty sure neither had a lift but they were considered the coolest rides and very popular kids at school because of their money.
Fun fact: I only drove to High School once. We had one car and it was a Grand Prix.

I drove a dropped and bagged 97 chevy pickup, loved that dang thing and did the work myself and paid for it myself flipping burgers and washing dishes, all at the same place in the same night lol

I think I'm to young to really play this game. Lol all growing up all I ever wanted was a flat fender willys.

That's just bad taste, not necessarily embarassing... LOL
Aug 01, 2012 10:32 PM#19
My embarassing dream was similar to Bob's... I always wanted a karmen ghia. I thought the lines were cool like an old bathtub Porsche (only a redneck from Arkansas can link a Porsche and a VW as being 'about the same thing', but it is what it is...). I bought a '69 Ghia the first year Jen and were married (1853 I think?), restored it and drove the crap out of it for 4 months, blew the motor, sold it for parts, and never touched a VW again. :-)
