Shooting instructor shoots fellow instructor during a training class

Safety protocols are in place for a reason. Basic gun safety rules are in place for a reason. Every so often people become complacent and forget such rules. I see it all the time at shooting ranges, and especially desert shooting grounds. It's rare that an instructor fails so badly.

It’s been confirmed, former Russian soldier and current firearms trainer and Panteao Productions video host Sonny Puzikas did shoot and injure one of his fellow instructors during a CQB course at the Texas Defensive Shooting Academy in Ferris, TX.

The incident happened inside a Kill House. After a class, one of the instructors took a student back to the kill house to re-run the course. Sonny entered, thinking it was empty and proceeded through the course. The details of the event leading to the shooting is still unclear. Speculations are that the kill house targets did not have a bullet stopping background and rounds may have passed through and struck the instructor. Sad event.

Many things could have gone wrong here, but each could have been prevented.

1. There was no indicator on showing the kill house was in use.
2. There was no RSO Range Safety Officer observing the kill house.
3. The kill house was dark and Sonny Puzikas did not have a light on his firearm.
4. Sonny failed to identify the target before engaging.
5. The kill house was not designed properly to stop bullets.

I spent this morning out at 355ave and Indian School, out in in the desert. I was cross training with a fellow instructor. We spent 2 hours setting up the course of fire, safety zone, and shooting lines. Once a bullet is fired it can't be called back. Safety needs to be taken seriously!
