SHTF bunker/land/off the grid
#1
Had a good conversation with some family during a gathering. We were talking about the state of things (most my family is right wing) and what possible outcomes there are. The subject of having a “Fallback” location came up. We even talked about a building a “bunker” of some sorts.
That got me thinking about land outside of the city again. If I was to look for land to use as a fall back it would need to meet a few criteria.
Near but not next to a major intestate/highway.
Access to multiple state exits. You never know if you will need to leave your fall back.
Water/ food- someplace that gets rain/snow or is near a natural water source. This would allow for wild life or livestock.

I have been looking at some of the ideas out there.

Also looked into building my own. If everything goes to poop I should know how to build stuff... Or I just make Mike my forest wife.

This is a great idea! I have thought of this many times. I have many ideas, that I will post up when I'm back at my real keyboard.

Agreed. We've been looking at land too.

Okay, I must say this is one of my favorite topics, the only thing that stops me from acting on it is money.. as usual.

In a world where I was rich, I would buy some land up north preferably with a lot of pine trees for cover. My "house" or bunker would be completely underground, with the exception of maybe a small 2 bedroom cabin hiding the entrance to my "bunker". I would purchase my own equipment and do all the work myself, with the help of friends/family that I want to know about it. I would then dig holes large enough to drop in a 10x40 foot conex, followed by 2 or 3 10x20 foot conexes offsetting the large one to create rooms(Google, conex bunker). All of this would have at minimum 4 feet of dirt covering which means I would need about a 12 foot deep hole to drop these in. From there you can vent in your fresh air and/or have a air filtration system installed. For sewage you would have to install a tank, and for water I would have a city line running to the cabin if possible, and a separate holding tank that would run the water through a filtration system.

Now, for the more realistic situation.. I would love to buy a little land completely off the grid, preferably in AZ with pine trees either with family or friend(s) and build a block home, or shack just enough to allow for a place to escape on the weekend, or retreat to long term. I would want to build it into a mountain if possible, and if I could buy a conex ($3000ish) I would dig back into a hill or mountain and slide the conex back into it as far as I could. Install my own fireplace and water tanks, electricity isn't of a huge concern to me because I can use batteries with solar panels, and propane if fire isn't an option. I'm really hoping in the next 10 years to be able to afford some land and start this project on my own if I can't talk someone into helping me before that. I want to be completely dependent on natural resources for energy.

Converted missile silo

includes a five-year food supply and “simulated view windows” with light levels calibrated to the time of day to keep you from going crazy.

It’s really not a bad place to site out the apocalypse, since it will feature a pool, a theater and library, a gym and even a waterfall, and all other modern day utilities like electricity will be powered by geothermal energy and wind turbines.

Saw that thing on Preppers. Not a cheap place to live.

Each house comes with an AR-15 and a safe room

Every citizen is required to keep at least 1,000 rounds of ammo for their AR-15, on hand, at all times, and each household needs to maintain a year's worth of supplies and a "Tactical Go Bag"

Weird, but I like.
