AR-15 Wrenching Party!
#1
Some of you have purchased stripped receivers and may find you need a bit of help in assembling it. I'm going to schedule a Sunday afternoon (date TBA) when everyone gets their receiver in hand, and any necessary accessories, and have a build day.

I have all the tools to fully assemble an AR from a bag of parts. In the meantime, start shopping for Lower Parts Kits (LPK), and anything else you want to assemble during this build day. At the minimum, we're looking at a date in late May or Early June.

Things you should be shopping for:

* Lower Parts Kits. www.PalmettoStateArmory.com generally haves them in stock. Sometimes, they bundle it with a stock. This is a good savings when that happens. Get on their email list.

* Stock, Buffer Tube, Buffer Springs.

* Bolt and Carrier

* A complete upper, or the upper + barrel. Depending on your build, you will need to gather up the necessary stuff. www.DSArms.com, www.Del-Ton.com, www.mapartsinc.com, and www.Model1Sales.com has uppers available for order or backorder. DSArms has probably the best prices.

* Magazines

* Ammo

* Optics

* Custom pins, grips, quad-rails, blah, blah,... it's a man's barbie. Dress it up, but don't make it look stupid! :)

You may NOT be in the position to do a complete build right now. That's ok. Order what you want, and get the rest later. Magazines, ammo, and receivers are the THREE items of most importance, right now.

Other good sites to get on the mailing lists.

www.AimSurplus.com
www.CenterfireSystems.com
www.Brownells.com
www.DSArms.com

Keep in mind, most items are on backorder. Place the order and wait for them to show up. Most won't charge your credit card until the item ships.

Good luck and have fun shopping!

Pretty awesome idea!
Thanks James

ill be there with at least a lower parts kit. I need to get with you on what I should buy

What you need is a lower parts kit (LPK). Visit those sites I listed and buy one. I would go with a standard M4 stock. This will keep the weight down. They also make lightweight barrels. Find one with M4 type feedramps. Bushmaster makes them bit are currently out of stock. Model1Sales also sells one but not sure of the feedramps. Call them. I may fo this route, too.

Just ordered a barrel and an upper receiver. I have everything to build a new AR.

Just doing a quick headcount. I have Daniel A, Bob M, Chris B, Paul Z, and myself taking part in this event. Is anyone else looking to join in? Even if you are not building, but just want to come and watch/learn. Most of us have parts ordered to complete the lowers and should be arriving next week.

Individully, please list what you're going to be building so I can set aside the appropriate amount of time. Are you doing a complete build, complete lower w/ stock, or stripped lower less stock.

ME Complete Build

Arrived: Stripped lower
Arrived: Lower parts Kit
Arrived: Lower Stock Kit
Arrived: Stripped upper
Arrived: Gas tube and front sight
Arrived: Lightweight .223 barrel w/ nut
Arrived: Magazines
Backordered: Bolt carrier group
Backordered: Charging handle

Still need to order: NOTHING.

Bob, I know you may have fallen behind. If your stuff does not arrive by the time we schedule the build, I have a spare Lower Parts Kit, Stock, Stock Tube, Buffer Spring, and Buffer. That'll be enough to complete your lower.

I will be there but just to learn. I have a budget and LPK's and such are not in the mix till I can pay off a few things. I need to be good. I do appreciate the offer on dipping into your stash till mine showed up.

You sir are AWESOME!

By now, everyone should have all the required parts to build the lower. We may not have the bolt carrier, charging handles, or uppers yet, but those don't really require us to assemble much. The main focus is on building the stripped lowers. So, lets set a date.

I'm kinda eager to build. I have all these AR stuff lying all over my house and I'm starting to get itchy like a meth addict! MUST FEED THE ADDICTION!

Saturday or Sunday? If we do it on a Sunday morning, we can go shooting afterwards! We have 4 lowers to build, so it should only take 2 hours or less. I think way less, but I always budget time for unforeseen issues.

May 11, Saturday, after 6pm (mother's day weekend) <== date cancelled due to Big Fire @ Lake Pleasant event.
May 18, Saturday, After 6pm
May 25-27, Memorial Day weekend. This may be the easiest, unless you are out of town. I'm available Saturday night and off Sunday/Monday.
June 15, Saturday, After 6pm (father's day weekend)
June 22, Saturday, After 6pm
June 23, Sunday

If you already have your AR lower parts kit (LPK) please use this template to identify and inventory your kit. Make sure you are not missing anything. If you are missing something, get with your retailer and get it replaced.

The time has come to build these suckers!

Saturday May 25 @ 6pm - My House.

Make sure you bring all your parts/pieces. I have everything else.

Paul, get with me mid-June. I will set up a one-on-one with you and get yours built. You should also have all you need to build your lower. If you want to wait until you get your upper, that's cool too.

Current list of attendees:

Bob M.
Daniel A.
Chris B.

If there is anyone else that would like to attend please post it here. It's a learning experience and always fun to hang out with some friends.
