Random Gun Photo of the Day (and then Jimmy has to guess what it is)

You can already build a 9mm or 22LR AR, so having "that" in either caliber seems like a waste. A dedicated 22LR upper is around $300 and they have 27rnd magazines. A dedicated 9mm upper is $600 and you can buy a 100rnd beta drum..

THAT is an original Armalite AR-10 Sniper Rifle and it even has the original Waffle magazine! Pretty sweet! That bipod is unique. Never seen one like that before. Armalite didn't just make guns for the USA. They licensed the designs to the Dutch and they made them in their HUGE factory and sold them worldwide. Several variations were available, but not many were manufactured (that we know of). Less than 10,000 were built. Since "this" one has wood furniture (instead of plastic), it should be a Dutch made version. Plus 75% of the manufactured AR-10s were made by the Dutch so the odds are in my favor.

The main reason their was not many produced was that Armalite was "not" a gun manufacturer. Their business was building airplanes and engines, under the name Fairchild". Still, they entered into a competition to build the US Army a replacement rifle for the old M1 Garand. They used a new "prototype" composite barrel and it blew up during the pressure testing phase. They replaced it with a traditional steel barrel, but it didn't make the US Army happy. They lost out to what is now the M14 (or the modern M1A).

The second reason was just bad business. Bad luck followed Armalite since this disgrace and they rushed to make more guns to sell and recoup their investments. A bunch were machined incorrectly and, eventually they licensed off their design (as mentioned above). Even still, the Dutch company could not keep up with all the improvements being sent up to them and could not retool fast enough to meet the new specifications. Eventually Armalite cancelled the license to the Dutch. The Dutch destroyed all of their machines, design drawings, parts in inventory, and even their build records. That's why no one knows for sure how many were originally built or in which model.

Since Armalite could not get their act together and build/sell guns, they conceded and sold the rights to Colt Firearms. Colt kicked ass with it and made the AR-15/M-16 that we know today. The AR15/M16 was not really a scaled down version of the AR10. It was heavily redesigned but kept with the same design principles.

But Armalite still builds/sells an AR10. How can they if they sold the rights to Colt? Armalite doesn't... they offer the AR-10B. The took Colt's current AR-15, beefed it up, and called it an AR-10B. 8) Why redesign when you can build it BIGGER and stronger!

Now how am I suppose to work with this photo???

Ok, All I see is a Harris swivel Bipod
20rnd metal magazine (caliber unknown)
Nightforce rifle scope (model unknown)
Daniel Defense railed forend
PRI charging handle
45 degree iron sights (make/model unknown)

As I look HARD at the barrel, I notice that there is a silver lever on top of the gas tube. That should NOT be there. So, I will have to assume that this is an airsoft rifle and all the above mentioned items are probably Airsoft Clones, which will render the list null and void.

The rifle is a Spike's Tactical ST Compressor SBR with a barrel modification. Caliber should be 5.56.

Here's the link. Since it's a production gun, there is no need for me to list it. Here's a direct link to the product:

http://www.spikestactical.com/new/z/st-compressor-sbr-300blk-nfa-p-792.html

The addon are:

Magpul grip tape on the mag
Aimpoint micro T-1 optic on a Larue Tactical quick release mount
Surefire tactical flashlight with pressure switch, on a Larue Tactical Picatinny mount
Battle Arms Development safety selector

Unknown: Barrel make, can't see it. If it's a 5.56, then it's probably 8".
Unknown: Suppressor make/model, can't see it
Unknown: Flashlite model (Probably the Fury)

This is the bastard lovechild of Arnold Schwarzenner and Nancy Pelosi. It's an UGLY attempt to make an AR15 legal in states where there is an assault weapon ban in effect. California, New Jersey, New York, and Connecticut. The rifle is a Thordsen Custom FRS-15 California. It's known as the "featureless" AR since it does NOT have the evil features. No barrel shroud, no flash hider, no pistol grip, no retractable/collapsible stock. By not having any of "those" features, it allows the rifle to have a functioning magazine release and use any Pre-ban high capacity magazine. Worth the sacrifice? Maybe, if you live in those states. My cousin lives in Irvine, Ca and is thinking about buying one of them.

The stock is their custom, the buffer tube is their custom, the railed forend and barrel extension is their custom, the saddle is made by Command Arms Accessories (CAA).
Ironically, the magazine in the picture is a Lancer L5 which is NOT a preban. The L5 was made WAY after the original 1994 assault weapons ban / high capacity magazine ban.
They also incorporated the Magpul BAD bolt release lever and their proprietary ambi magazine release.
The scope looks like a S.P.O.T Mark III or "any" knockoff of the older Aimpoint dot scope. The mount is a forward offset that comes with the scope.

Everything about this rifle is WRONG. I'm going to go an throw up now.
