CB ground
#1
I have been having issues with the CB in the truck since the day I put it in. I thought it was the mount and the firestick.
I ordered up a little wilson

Easy to mount. I do wish the cable was longer so I could center it on my roof.

I still have the same issue. I cant pick up anything. Even on the I-10...

I was talking to my friend about it and he asked me about my ground for the CB. I got to thinking and dont recall grounding it. So I am going to pull the carpet back and ground it.

What the best spot on the cb to run the wire off of to make the ground?

What's the back of the CB look like? No screw hole for that?
I don't think I've ever had or grounded the box. Obviously the power is positive and negatived out to be working.

In a quick search I found that someone trimmed a small amt from the tip of the antenna to acheive lower SWR readings

I admit actually didn't know grounding the radio was a thing.

GROUNDING your radio is important for Peak performance period. An Electrical ground is already provided when you plug the radio into the power source, BUT; that is NOT the same as grounding the radio to the BODY of the car.

and

The receive on the antenna is not as good as advertised. And I have to clean the magnet daily to maintain a ground to keep my standing wave low.

it puts out a good signal when well grounded. In particular I transmit better to the rear of the vehicle because the signal planes off the bed of the truck.

What CB unit do you have?
And how far back were you able to get the ant on the roof?

I installed that right? I think that's like #6 for me so memory is dodgy. The bracket is into the plastic no? If so, that would mean it is one of the only ones not screwed from case to bracket to vehicle metal (ground). Possibly your setup needs just a wire even from between the case and bracket screw to even just a already in place screw on the floor board.

Maybe the prob with the Wilson is that all your rough trail driving and taking dead end washes, you have separated everything metal holding on your roof ;)

Yeah we did the install. Its the midland 1001

I know its a cheap CB but I had one in two of the jeeps and they did fine.

The bracket is mounted to the plastic. The ant is mounted at the rear of the roof. I am going to take a look this weekend and see what I can ground to.
