2001 Ram steering upgrade
#1
Its easy till its not.

I ordered part# 52122362AH 2003-2008 Steering Linkage. Per all the Dodge forums its a easy direct bolt in and is a great upgrade over the stock steering. After all the parts were ordered and shipping was paid it was about $400.

I took to old steering off and got the new steering on. Not a hard job. I turned the truck on and gave the wheel a spin when I hear the pitman arm spinning on the steering box shaft. Bad bad sounds. I pull it apart and set it again... same issue. I go to the local parts store and get another new one... same thing again.

I cant for the life of me see what I am doing wrong.

Pics will be up in the next few days

The steering gear is turning but the tires aren't and your stripping the pitman arm? Is the pitman arm from the kit? Does it do it if you use the stock pitman arm?

Yes. and the stock pitman arm doesnt work with the kit. This is a stock 2003 ram 2500 pitman arm. I may need a new steering box.

Gotta be a conversion pitman arm available, or use the stock and ream it to match the new tie rod, assuming its bigger.

The drop isnt the same. I am going to try one more thing when I get home. If it still fails I am just going to have the shop fix it

Andrew called. Hes saying the pitman arm that the great all knowing google said i needed will not work for the box on my truck. We are working on a solution.

google is never wrong, dodge built your truck incorrectly :)

When you can't find the correct answer, invent it! :)

I like how you think!

I have had the steering in the truck since Moab and LOVE it! It cleaned up so many issues and the truck feels great.
Not a bad off the shelf solution.
