Woops - front axle loud noise
#1
Recently I noticed some odd noises in the jeep when I took off from a stop. First thought was driveshaft ujoint so I crawled underneath to take a look

Found the problem, but it wasnt the ujoint - got some really bad noises coming from the front axle

Im going to pop off the front diff tonight just to see how bad it is.... But its looking like new gears or new axle time

I had planned on an axle swap eventually, just not so soon.

New high end axles are about 7k for both front and rear. I can do that, but it will take me some time to save up the money. Not sure if its better to just put in new gears and spend the 1kish on that or just let it sit

Or should I look for a cheaper axle option? Future plans are for an engine and transmission swap to something in the 300-400bhp range. If im doing axles, I want to make sure they are future proof for that as well

Got it pulled apart - no metal teeth but maybe just worn out or pinion bearing

Try pulling the front DS off and see if it still makes the noise. Or take it to a shop and see what they say. Im out of ideas.

Joe called back and found the problem

Carrier is broke in the front axle

Noise was coming from rear CV on the driveshaft

Gonna get it all fixed
