Need your thoughts..

Alright, so as i'm sure most of you know I've been looking for a job for a very long time now, and so yesterday I applied at a bunch of places, Taco Bell being one of those places. Last night I got a call from the manager asking me to come in today for an interview. At that point, it's a pretty sure thing as I rock at interviews. Anyways, minimum wage sucks, but it's a steady work pace and such. Well, I also was givin a number to a guy who has his own construction crew and they remodel houses for banks, so business is pretty decent for them right now. They need another guy, and I have quite a bit of experience in that area, my own tools and everything. Starting is 9 bucks and he said if I work out well he'll bump me up quite a bit. But, he can't guarantee how many hours a week I get.. anywhere from 10 to 50... Thoughts on what I should do? He wants me to start Monday.

what are the hours like at taco bell? Would you be getting 20+?

How many hours would you have to work at taco bell to equal 10 hours of work at the construction job? Which would you like more?

If youre open to working the restaurant stuff why not try in n out or chick filet? They both pay above min wage. Have you ever bussed tables for a big place like chilis or olive garden? That might be something to do and maybe go into serving there?

Not sure yet on the hours for Taco Bell, I would definitely like the construction job more, but right now I just need something that's fairly steady.. so I dunno. I am open to working anything right now, my plan for Monday was to hit up some more places like chick fliet and in n out, my ex worked at chick filet and made pretty decent money, worked her way up to assistant manager in a year. I've never worked for any fast food or restaurant places in my life. Taco Bell would be my first. I've done nothing but Construction. I did apply for Apple Bees, but they weren't hiring.

Yeah see what the hours are like then you compare the decision

construction jobs seem tough to find and hold onto right now with the economy down like it is

have you checked out usajobs.gov ?

Yup, I'm on just about every job website there is. lol I'll go to the interview tonight and see what TB has to offer..
#6
can you swing both?
#7
I would go with the construction job hands down.
TB you will most likely only be part time, making minimum wage without much chance for a raise. With the construction job at least you have the opportunity to work more than 20 hrs, at a higher wage and a good chance for raises down the road. I've never done construction but I would think the work atmosphere would be much better than fast food as well.

Sweathog has a point though, you might try doing both for a while and see how that goes.

Yeah, but guys... it's TACO BELL! Think of the food discounts. My food bill at Taco Bell is outrageous, so this would save me a ton of money.

Sounds like a con to me.

Alan step away from the tacos!!

If you can swing it dan go with both. What about remodeling that is where the work is right now in your field. A lot of people are going that route right now instead of new builds because it is cheaper.

If you have 2yrs+ in ac i would tell you to come over here and apply. Coming into summer we are hiring only experience instead of green just because we do not have the time to train. We are over 70 install this week.

Persistance and prayers will pay off. Even if you take the taco bell job keep looking around. It is always easier to find another job while you have a job. You may not make much there but at least it is better than nothing.

Daniel, did you figure out what you're gonna do?
#13
Oh hey! Forgot about this thread.. haha I did,

Turns out the guy that I"d be working for doing construction doesn't even have his contractors license, no pay roll, all under the table, kinda shady deal.. so I decided to stay away from that. I did get the job at Taco Bell, so for time being I'll at least have a little bit of income. Looks like I"ll probably be working the night shift, so from 5 or 6 to 2 or 3 time frame.

Which one?

Alma School and Warner

congrats on the job! stay away from the dehydrated beans :gross:.

just an idea, but my bro got a job paying real well at Lowe's. Might want to look into that. Your construction experience migh come in handy (and look good on a the resume)

I"ve applied at Home Depot and Lowe's SEVERAL times... very frustrating because I always see new people there and hear of people getting jobs there.. wondering if I'm over qualified or something? I dunno. If he's got any tips I'd love to hear them..
#18
