DIY highline hood
#1

We got started on chopping up my hood tonight. Its going quicker then I thought. We took both front fenders off and cut the new line in the hood.

Tomorrow we will bend the sheetmetal on the front fenders and remount those. It will take a little bit of fabbing to get the battery tray in along with some of the other evap stuff. Looks like we will need to find new mounting locations for them

Last pic ever of the stock hood

Test fit of the fender. We still need to bend the fender to match the contour of the front clip

lets see one from the front. It looks good.
#3
Nice!

Things slowed down today. Needed to make an extra tip to ACE and were having a little problem getting the fender to sit straight

Heres som progess pics

Heres how it sat before we added a few extra bolts and got the fender to match the curve of the front

The gaps gone but the fender is at a funky angle

Heres the support bracket we will be cutting out

#5
Its looking good, are you doing anything to the rear?
#6
yep the rear should be easy, just cutting the rear out more and moving the fender up so it matches the line in the front
#7
Yeah, looks like the front is cinching up well. Much better than just using a hammer to pound it out like that one guy's we saw.

I think cutting a line in the triangle as if you were cutting it in half would work. Then you can bend the fender back down. Then if losing that support is an issue, you can throw a bolt back in to "reconnect" the triangle.
#8
which line do you think would be easiest to cut? Red or Blue?

#9
Easiest or most effective?

Red woouldn't do that much since the metal will still be forming an L where it meets the body.

Blue would allow you to destroy the all mighty power of the triangle dark forces . Then you could slide the pieces by each other as you bent the body and drill a hole (if you still want to readd the suport) and magic meld the good and evil sides of the polygonormic puzzle pieces ritually back as one reckoning negative factor.

All right. It's coming along. The fenders on on, and they are level now. And I must say it looks pretty bad ace. Can't wait to roll it out in the driveway and daylight tomorrow.
#11
Nice, cant wait to see it.
#12
fronts done :D Spent a few hours making some new brackets and getting everything stuffed back under the hood. Only thing left is to trim the rear and stick the flare back on

#13
Yeah it drives nice too. Wierd being able to see your hood latches from the inside :)

Making barackets was fun. Can't believe we got it all back inside to fit.
Most Jeepers won't be able to even tell we did anything to it. It turned out so good it looks factory.
