Quest for the Best Burger in AZ+

sweathog wrote:I had heard of that place, I guess I don't need to try it anytime soon.

Are those onion rings? Were they any good?

Yes onion rings. Standard.
Everything was good don't get me wrong. Waitress was nice. Definitely describe it as a dive.

I was wanting to try The Original Wineburger on 19th and Bethany

I love this thread. Makes me hungry when I read up on it.

Burger at Liberty Market
Good for a non specialty burger.
I'm not up on my PBR ratings. Plenty of meat. Would get again, but wouldn't go there seeking it out.

Ate lunch with Chris today.
I'm still sure that Red Robin's Whiskey River BBQ Burger is one of the best burgers I've ever had.
Right up there with the Llama burger. I'd go there just for it.

Well, I read through this whole thread and have to say there are a lot of great burger places out there.
Also in my travels I have ate at many Triple D's burger joints from the Squeeze Inn in Sacramento to the West Side Drive Inn in Boise.
But in my old age, my bestest, favorite burger is a plain old NR 1 at Sonic. I love their toasted buns and chopped onions and mayo
and mustard. I usually eat 2 along with an order of onion rings and a 44 oz peach tea. There's just something about an old fashion burger.

When you go piling on mushrooms, and all the other special ingredients, it takes away the taste of a good burger.

Antman, I agree with keeping it simple. Cheddar, Bacon, and 2 patties are all I really need. The extras can be nice, but sometimes I just need the basics.

Michael, Nice additions! There really isn't much to complain about with the Whiskey River Burger.

I need to get some time to update this, I have to add Blue 32 and Blu Burger. Already have next weeks burger quest planned.

I need to know... did you get tex heat?
#48
not this time, kept it simple for comparison, but I will be going back to try the tex heat and others.

If your picture of the burger mysteriously disappears does that mean you never ate there?

I guess a vanishing picture is fitting for this haunted bistro...

Last weekend we took a trip up to Prescott. I ordered the Bistro Burger, its char grilled burger on a Kaiser roll. I added jalapenos to it as well. Maybe its because I havent had a normal burger in so long, always trying the exotic stuff like green chile burgers and mexican burgers. But this burger was excellent. It was juicy, had great flavor and the jalapenos really added a nice touch. It was served on a kaiser roll with a thick slice of RED onions (not the boring yellow or white) along with lettuce. I used the mustard and ketchup on the table and called it complete. Definitely a great burger. Not sure if its worth the hour and half drive for the burger alone, but its pretty close.

ok, finally got some time to update this. Work gets crazy this time of year trying to complete things for year end. I'll probably always have an excuse, but on to the burgers. Had some good and bad the last month:

Blu Gurger - it was good, but nothing that made me want to rush back

Lenny's - The new place opened next to the old one on I-17 and Glendale. I tried something different than the norm but wish I'd stuck with the usual double with bacon and cheese. It was still a great burger, but felt like I was cheating on my usual.

Paradise Valley Burger Co - found this place on accident and am happy i did. Across from PV hospital on 40th St and Bell, it's near a burger king and a Jack in the Box. I'd stop in here over either of those for sure. The price is still under $10. A couple younger guys opened this place about 5 months ago and seem to have a pretty steady stream of customers already. They serve thin burgers kinda like Freddy's, but better and on charred buns. The menu has traditional and specialty burgers as well as sloppy joes and tacos. My group tried a few differnet burger and everyone liked them. The sides are interesting too including grilled corn and homemade chips. I will definitley go back. If any of you are in the area, make it a point to try this place.

Lime Light Dipping Bar and Grill - not impressed at all.

That's it for now.

i had a great burger at Joe's Real Farm Grill in Gilbert it was 9 bucks i didn't get a pic of it i added bacon and mushrooms to it and got 10 dollars off the total for my birthday!

also Lucky Boys has an awesome burger i haven't been there in a while though.

But if you are really looking for food straight from heaven try BEST OF PHILLY'S in Phoenix and get the Philly cheese steak with the grilled onions and mushrooms. here is a review of the restaurant. 8)

O.K. so I went to my first Overeaters Anonymous meeting on Monday.... no joke. So before I do that deal I'm saying goodbye to my favorite Phoenix delicacies.

This Place --ohhh.

It's sex. It's total sex.

Sometimes sex is nice. It's fun, it doesn't hurt, it's familiar.

Not here.

It's like the shy unassuming person you never really thought of doin' it with before. It's been in the neighborhood forever, you never really hear about how awesome it is, it doesn't look like much from the inside or outside. It kind of looks like an old school adobe Taco Bell.

So, never really having had a good Philly Cheesesteak sandwhich, I wasn't sure what to expect.

The Menu is pretty simple. 8 different cheesesteaks, gyros, subs, fries, onion rings, tasty cakes, salads, burgers.

Well duh, I'll get a cheesesteak.

The cheesesteaks are 10 inches.

Even after I saw that, I was thinking,"I can take this". I ordered a half mushroom one, a half pizza one. Thinking I could take 5 inches at a time, and save some for later.

So I began taking it.

This shy unassuming restaurant began showing how truly Freaky DeeKay it was.

The first bite was mind blowing, amazing, opening up whole new vistas of experience. I never knew it could be this good. The steak is chopped on the grill with olive oil, and then covered in white american cheese. The mushroom added the best mushrooms I have ever had on a sandwhich. The pizza side added really well done pizza sauce.

That first bite ohhh.

Then thats where it got nasty, and rough.

It's too much! I thought I was tough, I thought I could take it- but this is fried red meat covered in fatty cheese encased in delicious carb centric white italian bread. That first bite was amazing, but I wasn't sure this was for me. I was worried about the damage to my body. I didn't know if my heart could take it.

The sandwhich looked at me as if to say "want me to stop?". I considered that this was rough, this was new- but my 10 inch big boy was such a demonstration of mastery and experience, I couldn't stop. I NEEDED more.

So as I was abandoning myself to the experience I realized this was just on the brink of gross enough to be nasty and carnal, and refined enough to be a truly unique experience. There was no fatty pieces in the meat. It wasn't too hard and tough. It's astuteness tempered itself by being soft and delicate. There were moments where I thought 'Oh my god, I have to stop, I think I might die!" but I couldn't. I so couldn't.

This in not something I can handle every day. This sandwhich made me want to eat salads for the rest of the week. Not because I feel dirty or guilty, simply because I know taking this thing pushed the physical limits of my body.

Too many of these and I could easily see myself crying in
shame and lamenting "what man would want me now"?

Ate at Joeys of chicago 67th ave and bell. italian sausage, burgers and dogs.

i did not have a burger but i had the sausage and beef w/fries

really good the gardenia added the perfect spice. my wife had a roast beef sub and diane killed her cheese burger which she said was great.

i know this is a burger thread but i am adding a little flavor.

the only con is that it was a little pricey.

if you enjoy a chicago atmosphere you will like this place they even stream a chicago radio station.

3 out of 5 over all rating.

Offroadaz and I tried out The Q Bar and Grill today on 67th Ave and Olive.

I had the patty melt, he had the Q Burger

Mine wasn't anything special. Burger looked flat and gray, no seasoning. The grilled onions and cheese were good but it was just something you could throw together at home. Nothing pay worthy.

Maybe the slogan on the door should have clued us in

"Warm beer, bad food"

elephant bar today with alan
i had the jalapeno burger with sweet potato fries.
this burger was very tasty with only a little heat but it was enough to not ruin the flavor of the burger. would eat this burger again and i will try some more next time i am there.

alan had a club type sandwich which he said he had before and really enjoyed and he killed the side of mac and cheese.

overall i will rate my lunch a four out of five. to this day i have yet to find that five burger.

on a side note there is a five guys opening on 7th ave and mcdowell that i want to try.
#56
