97 TJ Update Thread

New tie rod and heims from Andrew are installed and I discovered it was toed in too much (it was at 70" and should be 71.5"). Making these two changes really helped make DW go away. I drove it to work today (yeah!) and did 65 on the 101 before it started to get a bit wonky, but still no DW. Good day. Good day.

Finally got some sticker lovin'!

Was down at AO getting Joe's windshield off his copper TJ installed (thanks Joe!) and he stickered me up with AO stickers, a "everything is NOT going to be OK" sticker on the roll bar in front of the passenger seat, and this jewel on the rear pumkin:

Then I headed over to Mr. Skatchkins and we worked out final hood art (I need to prep the hood, but it's going to be SWEET). While there, we also branded the TJ with the appropriate HG stickerage (and I was able to get some pics of the elusive Moab Ninja in the background...)

Thanks for the hook up, Mike. I can now sleep easier at night.

After installing the windshield, I also put the bikini top on the rig. What a difference a windshield makes. I will make it removable for the trail, but I have to admit, it's much more comfortable having a windshield headed down the freeway. 8)

You're selling me on the PitBull's, Thom.

The BFG KM2's are going to run me $708 each before certs (ouch). PitBull has a 39.5x16.5x20 and a 37x13.5x20 they are price checking for me. Two of the KM2's are going to run $1787 with certs (I need to do all four as old and dry rotted as they are, but I figure I can do two now (to acquire a spare, basically) and do 2 down the road. We'll see. If I can get close to that ($1700 or $1800 for four of the 37's) I may be going down a few sizes, but an easier to find tire and afford.

This is suckin' butt. LOL

*** update*** they can do the PitBull's for $511.10 ea (there was only a $3 difference in the 39.5's and the 37's, so it really a question of wide at this point). If I am only doing 2, then I have to stick with the BFG's and 40's. If I'm doing 4, then I can go to the 39.5's or the 37's. Grrrrrrrr.

Ya i was not to happy with the wide part either but kept them to a 9'' wheel but when it comes to the traction they provide it is worth every penny,i first tested them in the Draw in wintery conditions with lots of snow and ice and puposely laid the jeep at a 45% angle and it held traction without slideing till i was ready to move and on the rocks they are toataly awesome.....for the money go for the pitbulls they also have a 10 ply sidewall, nothing worse on sidewalls than Arizona

Yeah, and Andrew hooked me up with a smokin' price... only problem is I then mentioned YOUR name and he stuck me with a 20% upcharge for dealin' with you. Man... you gotta warn me next time, brother! 8)

Hey Alan, I can get you 40x14.5x17 BFG KM2 for $529 +tax, or Blue label Krawler 40x17 for $552 +tax. Or 39" Reds for $407 +tax. All spankin new.....Although, the Pitbulls sound like a good option.

I am moved my tire questions and responses over here to my TJ progress thread and out of the "Rate your Tires" thread to keep it clean.

Where I am at right now is: Looking for 17" beadlocks, going to sell my 20" beadlocks, and then get 40x17's. Which tires I get depend upon what I have to pay for beadlocks. I'm leaning towards the PitBull Rockers (bias) as my tire choice (both price and reviews I've had), but if I have to go too deep out of pocket this first pass on rims, Geoff has a great connection for used tires that I'll run until I get my life out of them, then go with new tires. Either way, I've got to go with 4 new tires and a spare for the TJ before Colorado.
