You've ran it with 3 tires. I vote you just keep it that way.

OK, decision update:

I'm going with 4 new PitBull's (40x20 flavor) and I'll keep my existing 3 40x20's as spares (I'll get a steely 20" for a spare rim).

I'm going to modify the back end of the tub to include a tail gate instead of that god awful "V", and also incoporate these into my "back of jeep pile of stuff on the trail".

I picture them just under the rear supports in the tub to protect them from above, and also held in place by the new tailgate.

I'll also be updating some of the tube work to tie the cage and strut supports into the frame better, adding an aluminum roof over the front part of the cage (buggy style) as well as making a hi-lift holder that's also integrated. Chris at Lost Offroad will be doing that work (tailgate, tie ins, roof, hi-lift mount).

for the spare tire, I've got a line on a strap system that a lot of guys were using at KOH and that I'll use to strap in my spare in the rear part of the tub and not take away any of my departure angle by adding something to the back.

This is my May/June plan.

Geoff - how you coming on those tube doors? 8)

Yeah Colorado!

Ordered my tires today... should be in late next week.

Great news!

since you don't FaceSpace, you haven't seen this...

Here's how she sits today... hehehe... glad I don't have an HOA.

(PS - I ordered my tires today, so we need to look into a light run soon to get her dirty again.)

Post up when you get it figured out. It'd be nice to get a few of the other HG'ers off the pavement and out together before CO.

I am working all next weekend (the weekend of the 21/22, not this upcoming weekend), but finish around 2 PM on Sunday. I have a work buddy in that doesn't fly back to Houston until Monday morning who wants to send a couple hours out in the desert that afternoon (sunday the 22nd). Depending upon when my tires come in, there is an outside chance of a TM afternoon run that day (around 3 PM) for some light wheelin. If that doesn't happen, we'll set up another morning run for early June.

how light of a TM run?

LT/Pred type of thing. JD is too long for the afternoon and 'Conda/Die Hard excludes too many folks. It's a shake down run for my tires, so I'm sticking to easier things that will impress the out of towner who's never been, but not directly lead to expected breakage.

If there is an open seat when it happens..... I would love it.

OK, baby finally got some new shoes.

39.5 x 16.5 x 20 PitBull Rockers.

Let me just tell you now... I love them.

(despite what Andrew says, I think I could stuff 'em and make 'em fit the XJ)

With the 16.5 width, I was a bit scare they would look like Boggers or somethings horid. I was surprised they were more narrow than I thought they would be (pleasant surprise). I'm mounting them on a 20 x 9" rim.

Here is comparison shot to the 40 x 13.5 x 20 ProComps I took off.

And here is a comparison next to Geoff's Maxxis (of course, he keeps whining that his didn't have full air and they were under full load and mine weren't, but you get the idea)

I really like the wide and varied tread and lug design.

and of course, lightening bolts make everything cooler.

I enjoyed the mounting process...

and we did elect for a more traditional seating of the bead, instead of the starter fluid and fire method. 8)

and I almost forgot the balancing beads, but remembers prior to fully inflating and seating the inner bead.

at one point, I wanted to hump my driveway it was so sexy.

I also took a cue from Caleb and painted the inner part of my rims black. In addition I cleaned the lock rings really good. I like the final look.

Once on the rig, they are wider, but not too wide.

Final measurements once fully inflated to 35lbs and on the rig with full weight:

14.25 wide

40" tall

Those are Beautiful Alan. And the wheels look great!

I like how you did the rims.

Tires need some scuffs. :D
#77
Thanks Matt.

Here's a before pic:

and the "after" pic (and yes, I cleaned the rings with a wire brush and acid wash)

(and X2 on the "needing scuffs". I'm working on getting them scuffed on Sunday. Cross your fingers! LOL)

Sexy!

Special thanks to Jared. I have been looking to get cargo netting just like Jared used to have and well... he still had it in his garage and has sold it to me. Thanks Jared. I'm prepared for CO and love the new netting.

Rock on.

that is super nice. i like the ring look also. the top will also help make it cooler when the temps really get up there and it will help keep things in when you get her sideways. looking nice alan! maybe we will start a trend with the netting!
